HEINZ STAMMBERGER

Professor Heinz Stammberger, M.D., Hon. FRCS (Ed.), Hon. FRCS (Engl.), Hon. FACS, is Emeritus Professor and Head of the Department of General ORL, H&NS of the Medical University at Graz/Austria. It was here where in the late 1960s and 70s his teacher, Prof. Walter Messerklinger, started what would become a revolution in diagnosis and treatment of nasal and sinuses diseases: Rigid endoscopy, FESS being the best known off-spring of this development. Prof. Stammberger today, is considered one of the world’s leading experts in the field of endoscopic sinus and skull base surgery. He has helped through numerous publications, books as well as lectures and teaching courses on all continents, to spread the knowledge and expertise and push the surgical frontiers.In the late 1990s, he and his ENT-team have started close co- operation with their neurosurgical partners, establishing the „Interdisciplinary Skull Base Unit“ of the Medical University Graz. Their transnasal concept of “Endoscopic Rhino-NeuroSurgery” has made the Graz Skull Base Group a leader in the field and a national and international excellence and referral centre.

Valerie Lund is Professor of Rhinology at the Ear Institute, University College London and is an Honorary Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital (Royal Free Trust), Moorfields Eye Hospital, University College Hospital and Imperial College. She deals with all nose and sinus conditions with a particular interest in sinonasal tumours and has been involved in endoscopic sinus surgery and its extended applications since the early 1980’s. She holds a number of national and international administrative posts including the Chief Editor of ‘Rhinology’ , is Co-Chairman of the European Academy of Allergy & Clinical Immunology Taskforce on Rhinosinusitis (EPOS) and became General Secretary of the European Rhinologic Society in 2008.She was an elected member of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 1995 to 2006, was Chairman of the Intercollegiate Examination Board in Otolaryngology until 2007 and previously chaired Women in Surgical Training (WIST). In 2008 she was awarded a CBE for services to medicine and in 2009 was elected to the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.

T. Metin OEnerci has been Professor of Otorhinolaryngology in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey since 1997, having previously served as Assistant and Associate Professor in the Department. Dr. OEnerci has held important positions in a range of medical societies, including President of the International Society of Otorhinolaryngologic Allergy and Immunology (2001-4), General Secretary of the International Rhinologic Society (2005 to the present), President and Honorary President of the Turkish Rhinology Society (since 2000), and President of the European Rhinology Society (2004-6). He is an Associate Editor of Pro Otology and is a member of the editorial boards of several other journals, including Laryngoscope and the International Journal of Rhinology. Dr. OEnerci has authored almost 200 papers in national or international journals and many book chapters, and is also the author or editor of 14 books in Turkish and three in English.

Wytske Fokkens

Wytske J. Fokkens is Professor at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam.

Her main field of interest is sinus surgery and mucosal pathology of the upper and lower airways.

She is the secretary general of the ERS. She is the Chairman of the European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps (EPOS).

Dr. Fokkens is a member of the executive committee of ARIA, and workpackage and center leader of GA2LEN, the EU network of excellence.

She is the author of more than 300 papers on allergy and rhinology that have been published in peer-reviewed journals.

She has written a textbook on Rhinology: Rhinology and Skull Base Surgery, From the Lab to the Operating Room – An Evidence Based Approach, (Thieme ) together with Georgalas.

Since 15 years she organizes an advanced sinus surgery course. She serves as Editor in chief of Rhinology and Associate Editor of Allergy and Clinical Respiratory Journal.

Recently she received the EAACI Paul Ehrlich award for improving experimental research, She is honorary member of EAACI and the Roumanian Rhinologic Society. She is married and has three children.
